Our 10 Most Popular Posts of 2018
We headed out this week to Miami and the Florida Keys on our next poker/travel adventure. We scrambled to finish last minute work tasks and remind ourselves how to pack for 10 days away. From this trip, we plan to add six more poker rooms to our list (room reviews to come!). But, while you patiently await those, we’d like to share our 10 most popular posts from last year. As 2018 was our first year of blogging, we’re guessing that many of you missed some of our earlier work. So, without further ado, here are our 10 most popular posts of 2018.
9 Truths We Have Learned in Our 12 Years of Remote Work
In this post, we shared some of the ups and downs of life after ditching the office. Many aspects of working from home are great. Topping the list for us: not having a commute and jammies being the office dress code. But there are pitfalls, such as realizing you’ve only taken 600 steps all day and that you can work ALL THE TIME.
The Best Poker Training We Have Found
One of our many side hustles is writing for the poker training site Advanced Poker Training (affiliate link). While we may be biased, we believe that training at APT has upped our poker game. APT is constantly evolving and offering new material. The Poker Combat Trainer and Beat the Pro Challenges are among our favorite features.
The Five Best Poker Movies of All Time
This post wasn’t just our 3rd most popular of 2018, it’s one of the early favorites for 2019 as well. From Rounders to The Grand, we share our favorite poker movies and where you can find them.
Six Travel Mistakes You Really Don’t Want To Make
Here we share our worst travel mistakes, so that you can avoid them. From trying to rent a car in Las Vegas at midnight, to flying into the wrong airport, we’ve made them all. Most are funny to us now; some still sting a bit.
Our Dream Wedding on a Budget in New Orleans
Two years ago, Paul and I eloped. We told our kids we were getting married and took off for New Orleans. We had an absolutely beautiful wedding in City Park, complete with flowers, dress, and photographer all for under $600. Throw in the rings, the fancy dinner and the trip (doubling as our honeymoon), and the entire experience was both magical and under $4,000. As a bonus, we discovered that we were the first couple from our 23,000+ person town to ever get married in New Orleans!
Five Great Gifts for Your Favorite Poker Player
Have a poker player you need to get a gift for? Or want to drop this link with a loved one (hint, hint)? We’ve got you covered.
Six Steps You Must Take Before Making Hotel Reservations
The $6,000 College Tuition Savings Challenge
Paul’s older daughter started college in 2018. As you can imagine, we’ve been saving for this event for a while. With some judicious re-examination of our monthly costs, we managed to “find” over $8,000 a year to toss toward tuition. If you’ve got college costs coming soon, this is worth a read.
25 Things You Must Do When Planning a Long Road Trip
We are, of course, planning a very long road trip in a couple of years. So we’ve been focused on how we’ll be able to pull off our dream. This post covers all that we need to figure out and address before we hit the road, from how we’ll get our mail to finding health insurance. We don’t have all of the answers yet, but we will before we hit the road. And when we do, we’ll share those with you.
How to Keep a Gratitude Journal
A surprising last entry into our 10 most popular posts. Although it’s not the focus of the blog, sometimes we wax lyrical about meditation, or optimism, or gratitude journals. You have to understand, we are data analysts, poker players and by nature, cynics. None of these positivity things come easy to us. However, I do keep a gratitude journal fairly religiously. It helps me focus on the good things happening in my life, rather than always focusing on the stressors. I highly recommend the practice.
So those were our top 10 most popular posts of 2018. If you go strictly by page views, our Poker Room Map actually got the most hits (as it should). And a couple of poker room reviews snuck in there. Chasers poker room review is at number 4. A whole five spots above the much larger Mohegan Sun. Go Chasers!
Ok, we are off to the sun and the glory of new places to play poker. While we’re away, I hope that you enjoy these hits from the past year.
