Harrah's Atlantic City Poker Room

Harrah’s Atlantic City Poker Room Review

Last month, we took a trip down to Atlantic City to revisit one of our old favorites, The Borgata poker room (significant update to that review coming soon, but spoiler alert – not one of our favorites anymore). We happened to be there while the WSOP Circuit event was going on at Harrah’s Atlantic City, so we figured we would play there as well. In fact, we ended up staying at Harrah’s (as the Borgata would not guarantee us a non-smoking hotel room), and played both in the Harrah’s poker room and the convention hall, where the WSOP events were taking place.

Casino Setting

Harrah’s Atlantic City is tucked up in the northern end of town along with the Borgata and the Golden Nugget. All three of these properties would be walking distance from each other were that an actual thing in Atlantic City. As it is, they are a short, albeit confusing, drive apart.

Non-Poker Amenities

Harrah’s is a full-service Atlantic City casino. Along with extensive gaming acreage, there is a hotel, a suite of restaurants, a pool, stores, etc. At Harrah’s, you will find every amenity you would expect from a large casino.

The hotel rooms are quite nice and rather reasonably priced. Our one quibble with the hotel was the fact that the “free” wifi was limited to only two devices, with a surcharge beyond that. Which meant that we had to make a Sophie’s choice among our five devices (laptops, phones, iPad) to determine which would receive bandwidth. Actually, it was worse than that. As we didn’t notice the warning at first, my phone took up the first slot and Paul’s laptop the second. Definitely not the choice we would have made were we paying more attention. Oh, also – and related – the Verizon coverage is not stellar at Harrah’s.

The restaurants on the property were a mix of breathtakingly expensive (Gordon Ramsay, McCormick and Schmick’s, La Strada) and very mediocre (yet still overpriced). We had a fine meal at AC Burger Co., but it was definitely pricier than we would have liked. Also, about 75% of the restaurants are only open on weekends. Odd for an Atlantic City property in the middle of the high summer season.

Harrah’s Atlantic City Casino Poker Room Comfort

The 28-table poker room is a large yet cozy space with low ceilings, wood abounding, and attractive carpeting. The poker room is down a hall and separate from the main casino, but not separated by glass or a door. The lighting is relatively low, but there are spots that make visibility easier.

The tables are covered in green felt with a red padded rail and inset drink cups. There are both USB chargers and auto-shufflers. Most chairs have wheels, are well-padded, and are comfortable. However, a few tables are supplemented with padded banquet chairs. Tables are 9-seated and large enough for comfort. The chips, felts, cards, and room as a whole are clean. The poker room sported its own bathrooms on site and that unicorn of amenities (at least since 2020) – a water fountain.

Poker Room Staff

The Harrah’s Atlantic City Casino dealers are talented, friendly, and generally fast. The waitstaff circulates regularly. We did not experience any issues involving the floor, but staff at the cage were friendly and the floor was cheerful as he escorted me to a table.

Players at Harrah’s Atlantic City Casino Poker Room

I imagine that the players inhabiting the packed poker room while WSOP events are playing out upstairs in the convention space are likely not representative of the room. Players were aggressive, yet gregarious. There was almost a party atmosphere in the poker room while I was there.

A water fountain!

Tournament Structure

Harrah’s Atlantic City poker room does not typically host tournaments. When the WSOP Circuit visits the property (as it did in August) the convention space is set up for tournaments.

Cash Game Activity

There were 9 active tables at 3pm on a Thursday: three 1/2 NLH, two 1/3 NLH, two limit tables, a Big O table, and a 20-40 Seven Card Stud table. You can find weekly averages for cash play in the region in our Mid Atlantic cash poker tables. These have recently been updated, and you can access average table counts for Harrah’s Atlantic City, the Borgata, and the Tropicana by day throughout the week.

Overall Assessment of Harrah’s Atlantic City Casino Poker Room

The Harrah’s Atlantic City Poker Room is large, comfortable, and a pleasant room to visit. The staff is friendly, and the seats are comfortable. While we wish Harrah’s hosted regular tournaments, we found the room generally more pleasant than that at the behemoth Borgata next door.
