Orange City Poker Room Review
We spent much of the month of February this year in Florida checking out a variety of poker rooms. We visited the Orange City Poker Room (officially the Orange City Racing and Card Club) on our drive between St. Augustine and Tampa. While we only stopped in briefly to play some cash poker, we found it to be quite a pleasant room. We will likely visit again to try out a tournament the next time we find ourselves near Daytona.
Setting and Non-Poker Amenities
The Orange City Poker Room is off Route 4 between Daytona and Orlando Florida. It sits in a nondescript strip mall by a Home Store, a Planet Fitness, and a variety of restaurants. The advantage of such a location is that you can always head over to Planet Fitness if you knock out of a tournament that your partner is still playing! Or, of course, you could hang out in the poker room and hop on a site like Bovada to play a little video poker to pass the time. The room is comfortable enough setting to do so.
If you are staying in Daytona, perhaps to visit the Daytona Beach Racing and Card Club, the Orange City Poker Room is just half an hour down the road. This would be a great two-for-one weekend road trip. Alternately, if you are with the family on an epic Disney trip, at just 45 minutes, this is among the closest poker rooms you’ll find. The family won’t miss you for a few hours!
In addition to poker, Orange City offers off-track betting, and a small bar and grill. Although there were a few tables of Florida’s ubiquitous “poker games” (games such as Ultimate Poker, Caribbean Stud, and the like), there are no slots or traditional table games on site. The poker games sit along one side of the main poker room.
Orange City Poker Room Comfort
The Orange City Poker room holds 26 well-spaced tables in a bright and attractive environment. The ceilings are high with TVs galore spaced around the room. The facility does not allow smoking and is kept comfortably cool. Twenty of the tables are in the main room, with six more in a smaller side room.
The tables are branded, with a thinly padded rail, auto-shufflers, and our favorite – USB ports. The chairs are fairly basic, with minimal padding. The cards, table, and room as a whole were clean when we visited, although the chips could use a good wash. The felts, although clean, are definitely showing their age. They are faded and several feature a variety of stains.
Poker Room Staff
As we have found throughout Florida, the dealers at the Orange City Poker Room were excellent. They were incredibly fast, accurate, and friendly. The floors were also highly responsive. However, the waitress button, while an excellent feature in theory, failed to draw any waitstaff over a significant period of time.
Players at Orange City Poker Room
The players at Orange City on a Tuesday afternoon cash table were largely regulars. At this time of day, most of the players were older, although there were a few younger players sprinkled in. There were a few (although not many) women. A few players were quite chatty, while others were completely silent. Several clearly knew the dealers and jokes flowed across the table. Players were generally on the tighter side, but there were (as always) a few aggressive players at the table.
Cash Play Activity
When we arrived around 8 to 10 cash tables were in play. Games included $1/$2, and $2/$5 NLH, and a couple of PLO games. The room can be counted on to be fairly active throughout the week. You will find four to six $1/$2 tables and a couple of $2/$5 tables all week long with more on the weekends. PLO is regularly spread throughout the week, and on the weekends you will even find a couple of Limit or other games as well. If you are interested in checking out cash play, you can find cash poker activity in the larger region on our Poker Room Cash Activity Map.

Orange City poker room currently offers three tournaments during the week on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings. They all cost between $100 and $155 and have decent structures.
Your best tournament bet would be Thursday nights when for $100 you will receive a 20,000 chip starting stack. There are typically around 60 players, so prize pools are generally in the thousands. While the blind length is only 15 minutes, the structure is extremely slow, resulting in a 36 S-point tournament – quite strong for a $100 entry.
